HELP A SINGER BEAT CANCER

Hi, I found out last week that I have Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer. The mass around my thyroid is deteriorating my wind pipe, and it has also wrapped around one of the main nerves that controls my vocal cords. The surgeon at Kaiser Permanente says after she removes my thyroid, I will lose my ability to sing. I am a singer and a songwriter. It is the thing that brings me the most joy in life. The thought of having this taken away from me is devastating. So, I'm going to fight to keep my thyroid, and my voice, and to beat cancer!

If surgery is unavoidable, I would like to find a surgeon that feels that they might be able to preserve my voice. So far, at the top of my list is Dr. Gary Clayman at Clayman Thyroid Center in Tampa, Florida. He has performed more than 600 thyroid surgeries per year for more than 30 years, and prioritizes saving the voice.

Before I go the surgery route and risk losing my voice, I would like to try to eradicate the tumor with alternative/ integrative treatments like the ones Dr. Connealy offers at The Cancer Center for Healing in Irvine, Ca. I am also looking to use repurposed drugs like the ones listed in Jane McLelland's book "How To Starve Cancer", and in Dr. Paul Marik's monograph “Cure Cancer: The Role Of Repurposed Drugs and Metabolic Interventions in Treating Cancer”. Of course, I will continually be checking in with a team of doctors along the way, and using CT Scans and Ultra Sounds to determine if I'm making progress, or if I will need to have surgery. Money will also be used to help me pay for gas to get to doctor visits, and for healthy groceries.

I don't know how long this journey will take. Even after I'm healed, there could be years of follow up surgeries and treatments. The only thing my insurance will allow me to do, is to completely remove my thyroid and then go through Radioactive Iodine Therapy afterward. Anything I do outside of that will come completely out of pocket with no help from insurance. I don't know exactly how much it will end up costing me in the long run, so I am estimating $150,000.
